Do you think Sam Seder can win? Or is Destiny just too good at online debate?
Edit - Overall, the debate didn't devolve into shit-slinging and drama. So that's a plus. Both stated their points and the argument essentially centered around Wealth vs Income. I feel Destiny didn't get Sam's point, while Sam got and responded to Destiny's. That could be my bias, though.
12k people were watching it live...
In comparison, Sam gets 4k viewers. So, he can definitely benefit from this.
Yeah I saw him do that a bit after the debate ended and just turned it off.
The fact that the debate is happening at all means Destiny won. Same thing with the Richard Wolff debate, Sam Seder is too good for this but Destiny has successfully dragged him down to his level.
Anyway I like trash so I'll probably watch this later.
Sam Seder debates literally any libertarian that calls into his show, it's kind of his thing.
It can get Sam in front of more people which is a plus for him.
Edit: Also, it can show people how different debate is when one participant is not a debate-bro.
At the end of the debate, Destiny still doesn't get Sam's point while I think Sam got what Destiny was saying and was able to counter it.
But I think that's kind of Destiny's shtick, isn't it? The very career (of being debate-bros) requires him to hold onto his points extremely strongly and argue for them forcefully. In the end, it creates a community that is just filled with blind stans who will not challenge you because they are the only ones who remain (which in turn continues the cycle).
Overall, I think Sam did great. It was a very weird topic to debate on, but hey if Sam gets some more viewers from this, then more power to him.
Destiny fans already complaining about how long Sam is taking to respond. They really are the low-attention spam zoomers everyone talks about, huh?
I love destiny's hypothetical wealthy person who needs a mortgage.
Tbf a 3.5% mortgage on your $25m estate that you then kick over to your hedge fund account is basically free money. I suppose that stretches the definition of "need" though lol.
How does that amount to virtually free money? (I'm not well versed in rich bastard finance)
Ah, right, of course. If you're a rich bastard then your hedge fund account's rate of return is going to outpace the 3.5% interest on the mortgage, so you can basically treat it like an interest-free loan. May as well keep the money and the house.
Anyway, :mao-shining:
It's not an either-or situation Destiny. You can do both, M4A and Student Loan Forgiveness.
Sam's making really good points but looking over Destiny's chat, I don't think his fans are seeing it that way.
"It's just simply not the case."
Sam's throwing out all his zingers. I love it.
Destiny is like the embodiment of a Redditor. He sounds intelligent to the average layman who doesn't really look too deeply into the topics he talks about. Anybody with experience in the fields he discusses can quickly figure out how full of shit he is.
I don't understand what Destiny is not getting about the wealth argument.
