I wonder if there ever will be video games in the olympics. like League is MASSIVE, SC is basically the national sport of South Korea, major tournaments are on mainstream sports TV now. I suppose the thing is ofc those games are privately owned and not controlled by the IOC
Gran Turismo Sport (racing car simulation on PlayStation) had an Olympic event this year. Anyone that owned the game could attempt to qualify for it. It's finished already weeks ago and someone from Italy won
It's possible because the game is already FIA certified for various eSports competitions, and the FIA is the motorsport governing body (they're in charge of Formula 1 for example). So a little communication between the FIA and IOC was all that was needed, and the game didn't need to modified at all.
Watching the opening ceremony with the one South African commentator was weird. Dude didn't know wtf was going on and honestly I can't blame him. He'd wait for the world feed commentator to explain it and then try add something.
hearing guys in their 40s professionally commentate over skateboarding and name all these moves is so weird
Skateboarding is a dad sport now. :grillman: 🛹
honestly, I mean Tony Hawk is 53
Isn't his son a pro? Literally a dad sport
Just wait until starcraft, dota and CS are in the olympics and we've got 60 year old korea and swedish men talking about flick shots and zerg rushes

Is Tony Hawk a commentator? He fits the profile of "guys in their 40s" now
I'm watching it on the BBC so they just got some Bri'ish geezers
