Meh. The U-2 got shot because the Soviets finally built a missile that could reach it. The F-117 got shot down because 1.) NATO got sloppy and 2.) Dani Zoltan was very competent and thus able to exploit that sloppiness masterfully.

doesn't matter how expensive your military is, if it's being run by people who think all the evil shit America does is good then they obviously can't be expected to make good decisions based on reality.

Venezuelan F-16s also intercepted a gringo U-2 in 1992, they told the U-2 pilots to fuck off but they ignored the warnings, the Venezuelans literally had them on lock-on ready to shoot but the U-2 got away, climbing to altitudes far above what the F-16 can reach and speeding away from their territory. Immediately after the incident the Venezuelan Air Force reported that "they actually knew" about the U-2 flight and that they were "authorized" to fly over their own airspace but couldn't inform it's air units, so it's all probably BS, the US Air Force was flying a secret mission and got caught with their pants down. Moral of the story? The US military is far from invincible and no matter how friendly you are to them, you still get spied on. Remember, back in 1992 the two governments were allies, Venezuela was getting annihilated by neoliberalism... but that isn't enough for the Empire.
