To be fair the pope visiting any country would probably involve a head of state visit. That being said I agree Catholicism probably is a barrier to LGBT rights in Cuba, I just don't think it could possibly be worse than Christianity in the USA is.
my point was not that it's worse, I don't even think hardcore catholics are worse than southern baptists, but that it is a factor the US wants to play on and so that is part of why they are funding trans groups in Cuba, in an attempt to cause civil unrest
My guess, and what I can glean of the article, is that it has less to do with Cuban opinion and more to do with that of domestic Libs. They want to make cuba out to be a hellscape that tortures and kills us poor transes. Not mentioning the fact that Trans people get free healthcare and human rights in Cuba. Libs are so obsessed with marriage that it blinds them to how little it really matters outside of specific contexts.
