To assess which nations would be most resilient to such a collapse, countries were ranked according to their ability to grow food for their population, protect their borders from unwanted mass migration, and maintain an electrical grid and some manufacturing ability.

Mhmm. So places with a labor force big enough to grow all their food to a surplus, and be somewhat industrial. All the rich people move there, the former first world collapses, and then what? The wealthy buy up all the factories and farms. They start raising prices. Profit eventually falls like it did in history everywhere else. They have to loosen up border restrictions because they need cheaper labor. They have to do an imperialism. Then in 50-100 years these best places go through the same shit.

Peter Thiel doesn't have a bunker in NZ just because he thinks it's a cool place to retire. If the US gets too bad, he'll go there and do Peter Thiel things. They're not going to stop extracting wealth just because the world ends.

I'm pretty sure their immediate goals are to bunker down and survive in some place they've turned into a fortress. So basically, their plan is to copy North Korea's strategy for dealing with encirclement and an active siege, just somewhere with no land borders and without all the material and ideological policies that keep the populace committed to the cause even in the face of hardship.

That last bit's the big one: these oligarchs want to maintain their personal opulence and power, which means extracting massive amounts of wealth from a comparatively smaller population that's also right on their doorsteps, with much fewer raw resources on hand to process and without the flow of resources and goods from subjugated colonies outside the imperial core. The only way to maintain power like that is through constant terrorism from a warrior class, and they'd basically have to import their own army with no ties to the local population if they're going to be setting up an old fashioned colonial state somewhere that's currently part of the imperial core. They want to turn places like New Zealand into the fantastical image the western media paints about North Korea, and it'll end up looking like Apartheid South Africa but with imported PMC mercs doing the massacres and evictions.

We all know that the two hands-down best prepared countries for a global collapse are North Korea and Cuba.

The UK and Ireland depend on the Atlantic gulf stream and jetstream - both of which are going to be disrupted by climate change. How the fuck did they miss that. Plus NZ is a tiny island that's at risk of flooding.

The American and Canadian prairies are probably safer all things considered, relatively isolated from coasts. Probably still able to grow food. Away from tropics and the concomitant wet bulb temps. But even then, you're kinda fucked by heat domes and drought. Nowhere's safe, its global warming and a global problem.

tbf they do say that if something major happens with the gulf stream and jet stream its projected to be at around 2100, which if we dont do anything about climate change by 2100 we're insanely fucked anyways

Dude it’s an island. Half of its going to be underwater in like 50 years.

This study was only of like 25 countries.

Not that it might not be true, but when you only study like 1/8 of the countries in the world I don't think places should report it is "the best" lol

Isn't New Zealand now become the riches Bunkersville? So much so that native New Zealanders are really really really pissed off?

You can’t have societal collapse if there isn’t a society :think-about-it:

What about some indigenous communities? Would they be the better suited for surviving an industrial collapse or would they be the most affected?

I think UK, Ireland, and NZ might be there because they have very temperate year-round climates, so they're probably near the top because it would be less resource intensive to support a society there. Also all 5 listed are island nations, I think the authors of the study might place heavy weight on the ability for climate refugees to access the country.

Just like that COVID preparedness map.

Honestly, I think Cuba and the DPRK will be some of the most stable states during the inevitable global collapse given how they've needed to survive in conditions of almost complete isolation for decades already.
