    Yeah, but you'd assume very basic understanding of biology and profit motive would prevail. Do those people really consider a purebred dog that gave birth to a mix years ago incapable of giving birth to purebred puppies?

      you are missing the fact that rich people will drop hundreds on a purebreed dog that's just as good as the mutt at the pound. There's more money in dog pedigrees and high class breeding services than in actual science, and rich people couldn't have the most special possession of an animal that way, far outside the reach of the poors. mutts, and of course pure working dogs, are the true dogs of the working class. I'll take a border collie-german shepherd mix over the fanciest retriever any day of the week.
