Now, the country is on high alert as an outbreak of cases connected to the international airport in the eastern city of Nanjing touched at least 17 provinces. China reported 71 new cases of COVID-19 from local transmission Wednesday, more than half of them in coastal Jiangsu province, of which Nanjing is the capital.

In Wuhan, the central city where the first cases of COVID-19 were identified in late 2019, mass testing has shown some of its newly reported cases have a high degree of similarity to cases discovered in Jiangsu province. Those cases have been identified as being caused by the highly transmissible delta variant that first was identified in India.

In addition to the 71 cases of local transmission, 25 travelers from overseas have COVID-19 and have entered quarantine, making the total for Wednesday 96 new cases. The National Health Commission also said 15 people tested positive for the virus but have no symptoms.

I've been feeling very doomer lately because delta is out of control in all the cool countries except for China, and there's a chance it might be even too much for the Chinese government to handle. (Vietnam actually did a better job handling covid, per capita, than China, at least until this latest outbreak started.) It seems like delta is everywhere and that there's no avoiding getting it, and this is a huge deal for me because my kids are too young for the vaccine and my mom has reported that her vaccine might not be producing antibodies because of interference by some arthritis pills she takes. (Two doctors have told her that this isn't a big deal but I honestly think they don't know for certain.) In the USA vaccines will supposedly be available for kids by the end of September, but who the fuck knows if that will actually turn out to be the case. Anyway, the one "bright" spot, if it can even be called that, is that cases continue to decline in the UK. If the UK can handle delta, then fucking anyone can. The difference seems to be that for whatever reason, the UK is not overrun by anti-vaxxers.

So China might be okay. As for the USA, we are so fucking fucked. The latest spike will probably decline eventually—after killing a shitload of people. Then a vaccine-resistant variant will mutate and fuck us even harder, since delta can still swim around in your bloodstream even if you're vaccinated. The impolite fascists have a 50-50 chance at least of throwing out the polite fascists in congress in 2022, and a 50-50 chance of putting an actual competent Nazi (like Tom Cotton) in the White House in 2024. How long will we have to wait before the US government starts putting socialists and communists in jails, prisons, and concentration camps alongside all the Black and brown people who are already there? I know the gubment already started doing this during the 2020 Uprising, but I'm thinking it's going to be real Jakarta Method shit with President Cotton and QAnon in the White House and congress.

If I'm mistaken about any of this, please rectify me, comrades.

Thanks Jerry. By the way, I'm glad to see that you've seen the light and stopped hanging out with the IDF and fucking underage girls.

I honestly don't have a lot of optimism, but what do I know? I live in the rural USA, so it's almost nothing but libs and chuds here. The nearest leftwing org I know of is the DSA, and that's three hours from where I live. Starting orgs here is also pretty hopeless—I know because I've tried.

Anything can happen. Delta or lambda or whatever could precipitate another major uprising, but without a vanguard party it's hard to see any uprising going anywhere, and the security state works extremely hard to destroy vanguard parties long before they actually become a threat. But again, what do I know?

UAE I think approved vaccine for 3+ so I'm hopeful it's safe and will be approved in other places soon

r/publicfreakout is already spreading bullshit videos that purport to show the sounds of people screaming as they're welded into their homes.

The joys of information warfare. If something happens in China these people will crawl out of the woodwork to post fake videos and feed people a bunch of reactionary bullshit.

Almost everyone I know has had the virus, including me, but thankfully we haven't really had any serious deaths or side effects. It could be because our population is one of the youngest in the world.

Must be nice to have headlines freaking out about SEVENTY-ONE new cases. Salute to our comrades in China.
