Just wondering if anyone's abroad, for how long, and why. I'm bored during a mandatory two weeks' quarantine. Been abroad two years with no plan to really go back. Would like to live in a few other countries.
Quick reminder: The term "expat" only exists to make any "westerner" who moved to a non-"western" country look like they are not like one of those filthy brown "immigrants" who moved from the global south to the "west".
So stop fucking using it. Just call yourself an immigrant, or stfu.
I used it more to mean "Temporarily residing in a country and moving on to another country instead of permanently integrating", though to be fair that's a bit of a misnomer and arbitrary definition I picked up and internalized without thinking. Always viewed immigrants as those who settled down instead of moved around (i.e. if I stayed in Korea for 20 years, became proficient in Korean, and raised a family, which probably won't happen).
