According to Tolkien, female dwarves in Middle-Earth had beards. And generally, fantasy fans accept that idea, both amusement and in a "yeah, that makes sense" kind of way (there's the popular theory that Dwarven beards act as HEPA filters for mining).
Beards grow suprisingly quickly and padding can make muscles look like curves. So you could theoretically switch between the two fairly often.
Not the kind of beard I'm thinking of.
