Food Not Bombs is a loose-knit group of independent collectives, sharing free vegan and vegetarian food with others. Food Not Bombs' ideology is that corporate and government priorities are skewed to allow hunger to persist in the midst of abundance. As evidence of this, a large amount of the food served by the group is surplus food from grocery stores, bakeries, and markets that would otherwise go to waste (or, occasionally, has already been thrown away).

On this day in 1988, members of Food Not Bombs (including one of the founders, Keith McHenry, shown), were arrested for the first time in San Francisco, California, for handing out free food and literature in Golden Gate Park. These were the first of many arrests of Food Not Bombs activists for giving away free food.

What's the explanation for all the equipment and aircraft being left behind? A gift for the Taliban similar to previous CIA funding? A chance for weapon producers to profit by remaking and reselling the equipment the US lost?

considering how desperate a retreat this has been, it takes a lot of time and effort to co-ordinate the logistics of carrying all that shit. they're also trying to get foreign nationals out, like journalists, tourists, family of personnel. it just is much easier to leave guns and trucks behind than the bad optics of civilian casualties.

the cost of that material is fucking pennies compared to what most of these contractors make, so it's not even a bottom line thing

that already happened after the Soviet Afghan war. what happened was the Islamist forces fractured into local bases of power and fought one another, as well as anti Islamist groups. I think the same thing will happen, without the imperialists to keep you united in opposition it is very easy for a coalition to fracture

a lot of it is inter tribal rivalries, local commanders securing their own power as warlords, there is some ideological stuff with say ISIS vs the Taliban. it's pretty complicated, and something the coalition fucked up really badly in dealing with in many cases

If you want to get tinfoily about it, that's a lot of materiel that could be turned toward insurgency and terrorism in Xinjiang.

I think it's not intentional though, this is a bungle.

I think in that angle of things the US very much is aware that this could help Uyghur terrorist cells in Afghanistan, of which there are more than a few. it's more of a silver lining to them than a plan, but I do not doubt that some American material will be used against Chinese infrastructure
