Food Not Bombs is a loose-knit group of independent collectives, sharing free vegan and vegetarian food with others. Food Not Bombs' ideology is that corporate and government priorities are skewed to allow hunger to persist in the midst of abundance. As evidence of this, a large amount of the food served by the group is surplus food from grocery stores, bakeries, and markets that would otherwise go to waste (or, occasionally, has already been thrown away).

On this day in 1988, members of Food Not Bombs (including one of the founders, Keith McHenry, shown), were arrested for the first time in San Francisco, California, for handing out free food and literature in Golden Gate Park. These were the first of many arrests of Food Not Bombs activists for giving away free food.

An update, baby is still on high flow oxygen and they are removing congestion from his lungs every 4-6 hrs. It’s a matter of waiting for it to peak and for him to heal.

All the prayers and positive thoughts were deeply appreciated. Thank you 🙏

God, the ridiculous things libs are saying about Afghanistan are infuriating

Besides the classic “these people have been fighting for thousands of years” cliche, what gets me most is the victim blaming, for lack of a better word. R*ddit politics nerds see reports of the Taliban strolling into cities unopposed and figure the ungrateful, cowardly, backwards Afghan soldiers threw down their weapons for no good reason at all. They never stop to consider whether these people were being paid or even fed. The fuck do they have to fight for besides a corrupt, dysfunctional government propped up by a foreign invader?

Another good one was a comment I saw on videos of people falling off American planes as they took off. Those stupid illiterate Afghans (Kabul residents btw) weren’t clinging to the landing gear just because they were desperate - turns out they just don’t know how planes work. Thanks Reddit lib.

Fuck man I hate this shit. People get pissy at me offline because I’ve run out of patience for the same bullshit takes. I’ve known people who’ve lost siblings in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last 20 fucking years, and who knows the true level of misery we’ve inflicted on the people living there. Fuck right off.

Houston infrastructure has gotten to a point where “it rained for a long time” is sufficient conditions to have every other traffic light stop functioning for the rest of the day

In August 1919, eighteen months into a global pandemic, the Third Anglo-Afghan War concluded resulting in Afghanistan's independence from Britain.

When history rhymes, it fucking sings.

I wish they were more open with their anti capitalism, but that's a branch by branch thing. they're always great to work with

I've had a few 'mild frictions' when it came out I am a Marxist Leninist to the mostly anarchist group. but I honestly don't see why the fuck that matters when we're trying to provide for the community. we're all comrades here. but never anything big

yeah it depends on the chapter a lot. i think they generally accept meat if its given to them, but they then give it to some other organization or food shelter near them

It's wild to me that only a minority of Americans know that the US created the taliban. You truly have to be living in another world to not know that shit

If USA really cared about all the afghans being oppressed, they should just give them one of the states. You don't need 50 of them, just give them one of the Dakotas, since you have duplicates of those.
