Yeah I'm a fucking genius for knowing mortgages exist and people don't pay for houses up front. That is really normal to know. Being able to own a home has nothing to do with knowing the bare basics of how they're normally bought. This isn't some complex aspect of financing that only people who have gotten it may know, it's that mortgages exist.

The amount that you would need to know how mortgages work is that it's a loan you pay back over time, which is the core concept, which unless you're trying really really hard to have something to argue against is tantamount to knowing they exist.
