Why did I let myself care about politics? If I'd known it would end up being this dumb, I'd have gotten into something more intellectually dignified. Like seances. Or pyramid schemes.

The post left discourse is just a zombie at this point. Red Scare and Terese are open conservatives along with a lot of their following.

Post-left was always dumb as hell. I could maybe understand falling into it in a moment of weakness and panic after the collapse of the Soviet project and seeming rightward drift of China - but being "post-left" now because you are too cool to be pro-Bernie or associate with cringe "tankies" is absolutely a joke

Yes the subreddit is intriguing but infuriating. I hate the pod, but I do like that the subreddit has a heterodox meltingpot vibe similar to /r/cth, but sometimes I have to remember half of them are legitimately very dumb and reactionary - not just being ironic. Like they literally are all Christians and anti-vaxx. I cannot comprehend how dumb you have to be to legit believe those things

yeah, i'm pretty much in the same boat as you. that sub feels very unique and quirky in a good way that no other place seems to capture. very much a guilty pleasure of mine.
90% of the thread concerning the pandemic were mind-boggling infuriating, it's like they got all their talking points from OANN or Fox News or something. i had one person arguing with me and defending TERRAIN THEORY at one point lmao truly surreal stuff

Yeah they also sometimes have extremely reactionary takes on China. Even Cuba became a struggle session for them and they couldn't hold an anti-imperialist line. Which is pretty hilarious because one of their big complaints about the left that they want to distance themselves from is how they are hypocritical imperialists. Which they are. But so are the redscare userbase who can't even stand behind Cuba unflinchingly, like the level 1 intro baby litmus test

Pretty hilarious to see one thread on there mocking Breadtube for acting woke while supporting a US coup, and then in the next thread regurgitating US propaganda. So... it seems like they just wanted to be anti-woke and pretended to be anti-imperialist as a bludgeon and then dropped it when it wasn't useful for attacking SJWs.

"Hypocritical BLM-supporting drone pilots killing Yemeni children"

"Did you hear about the dictator Assad's gas attacks? And the Uighurs!!"

            Which is it bitches?

Alright I’ll be the resident Liker Of Bad Things. Peter’s point is about how the left-right terminology comes from the French Revolution and was about support of or opposition to monarchism. They’re rejecting the left-right dichotomy as something that isn’t inherently about communism in any way. Personally, I think it’s hard to argue that the communists wouldn’t fall on the far left of the spectrum, but I could also place where my favorite Toy Story character would be on a political compass. Doesn’t mean I should. My read is that Peter is rejecting the political spectrum similar to how we reject r/PCM. Hakim has a good video on why abstract political philosophy models are not materialist and do not describe communist politics well. I’m reading this as similar.

TLDR this is Peter getting frustrated with anarchists and libs larping as leftists on Twitter. In case it wasn’t obvious, they would not draw a distinction between those two groups. Their points tend to be less coherent on Twitter because their communication style is to say counterintuitive things and then clarify until they make sense.

He's wrong because the left right dichotomy isn't about and never was about monarchism, that's just how it manifested in those specific conditions.

The left right dichotomy is about class, with the furthest left point representing the supreme victory of the working class over the ruling class and the furthest right point representing the supreme victory of the ruling class over the working class.

This dichotomy manifests itself differently based on the current conditions of the era. Under late feudalist conditions it was anti-monarchy, and now it is not, but it is the same thing it has always represented -- class struggle.

Left/right dichotomy is used to describe a lot things including the divide between young hegelians and old hegelians, which per Coffin's post, that would make Marx "Not A Communist".

Yeah it’s hard to be coherent when the words “leftist”, “communist”, and “anarchist” are all mutually exclusive. Peter doesn’t like anarchists is my point. It’s bullshit but whatever

No idea. It would be funny if the whole “you’re not a true Marxist” thing started because he started reading Lenin and got annoyed with himself for being Wrong or whatever. I dunno I’ve read Lenin and a bit of Marx and I still call myself an anarchist even if I think I’m less utopian than the average anarchist. Their whole take seems like a ludicrous waste of time tbh

Thank you...I can at least understand his viewpoint now. The modern era has liberals calling themselves conservatives, fascists calling themselves libertarians, social democrats calling themselves democratic socialists, et Al.

I'm not saying we should be happy about it but it's not really any one individual actors responsibility for the fact that words don't mean what they mean anymore.

The hilarious part about this I atleast am sure this is true for Aimee. Honestly kind of feel bad for her. Well, at least the image of the person I have in my head. An alienated person desperately looking for an ideology and group of people to belong to but doesn't have the clarity of thought to know exactly who she is and what her actual opinions are.

She's been conditioned, and rightfully so, to think that right wing thought is morally repugnant but subconsciously she's not down with rights for ALL oppressed workers and deep down feels that her material benefits lie with right wing identity politics. The dirtbag left comes up and she thinks, finally, a movement for me but it turns our the chapo guys don't represent her true calling, the Nazbols. She thinks, surely, she can't be a fash? So she launches bizarre attacks on leftists by conflating them with liberals, the only way she can have her cake and eat it too.

I only feel bad for a moment, because her real heel turn will come any moment and she's going to be marching to the beat of whatever right wing grifter that manages to use marxist critiques of liberalism.

It's also true for Coffin, but replace Chapo with hbomberguy or shaun, they were pinning for that breadtube cred real bad and when their videos wouldn't fly like hbomb's or shaun's, they started calling breadtubers nothing short of double agents for capital spreading liberal propaganda through their evil youtube channels, even though Peter Coffin essentially does the same thing. i assume this latest fixation on contrapoints is temporary too.

sorry for double posting but it really did dawn on me that these weird postleft musings are all some sort of adolescent personal angst against the cool kids in the room being aired in the most obnoxious way possible. high school never ends it seems.

The pre-2016 "post-left" was a loose grouping of nihilists, deep greens, accelerationists and primitivists.

The post-2016 "post-left" is rich contrarians who are sore losers over Bernie and decided it's time to become Tucker Carlson and oppose the vaccines

I was presuming you meant early Land, since later Land is incoherent at best.

Never really dealt with Deep Greens, but I do find their fundamental rejection of anthropocentrism to be ultimately self-limiting, particularly under the circumstances. We'll be lucky to get humans to decide not destroying their own ability to live is a good idea at this point.

the latter definition should be done away with as much as possible. It does not describe anything coherent or useful to radical politics. the former should be revived (if not necessarily adopted in all its particulars), because it constitutes a genuinely new theoretical tradition (however much its adherents would want to deny it). :anarchy-a-white:
