Putting forth the most milquetoast of milquetoast reforms only to be rejected by the ruling class and radicalizing his supporters is a contribution worth something. Of course, if said ruling class weren't so petty and short-sighted, they could have easily rallied behind Bernie, ridden the wave of (mild) social democracy and kept the whole thing going smoothly for at least a decade or two, thus defeating the entire purpose.
