The technology of "wake word" is imprecise. More reason for self-hosted open source AI to be used.

    :surprised-pika:

Any of you ever suddenly get targeted advertisements for things you've never mentioned on the internet but you were just talking to someone about irl with your phone nearby? :thinking-about-it:

I block all manner of ads as much as possible wherever possible, narrowly allowing as few services to access as few things as is necessary, and uh... no, I don't actually have any stories about targeted advertising.

I use adblock as much as I possibly can, and I still get targeted ads on apps like instagram or when I send a YouTube video to someone's TV. There's no escape.

I actually really like things like Google Assistant on a concept level, it's cool to talk to a gadget like I'm on Star Trek or something. Unfortunately we're stuck with awful cyberpunk companies providing them :sadness:

I often think out loud when I'm at home and wonder if my weird babbling nonsense is going straight into a Google server somewhere

This morning while I was driving Google Assistant decided to interrupt me about a dozen times. I kept saying "disable voice commands" and it kept replying "voice assistant muted" but the motherfucker kept coming back. I ended up calling it the c-word and it finally stopped.

idk where I was going with this post.

Lol some dumbass on here argued with me a while ago saying it's ridiculous to think the devices listen even when they aren't woken
