Maybe boiling babies alive wasn't the correct path towards communism?

At least according to Gonzalos comments on Lucanamarca, the extreme and unnecessary violence was already semi-supported at the top if not overtly supported under the excuse of "Shit happens, we cant put too many restrictions on revolutionary violence or else the waters never overflow like we want them to".

Keep in mind the context there is more than the peasants saw them as a respite, but often within literal days of showing up they would act like they ran the place, insert themselves into family feuds, kill beloved members of the community, so much so that in mere weeks or months peasants would legit seek out the people who previously had been raping and murdering them in order to get Shining Path out of their villages. Lucanamarca is particularly a good example of this, they took a serious risk and nearly got lynched by government goons while trying to get their help. That's how bad the situation was.

Despite that, it’s pretty impressive how despite their flaws, they actually managed to take over most of the country before the entire leadership got imprisoned.

Show's the success and potential of a maoist waged people's war even when you shit the bed multiple times halfway through like in this instance.
