Nah I think you're right. The reason they hate Trump so much is because they've been able to ignore how shitty America is for most people their entire lives and they just want that back.
They lived assuming "this is how it is no matter what." Then Trump shows things don't have to be that way, they can be different (much worse) but the liberal is incapable of imagining a truly better world.
Because they have absolutely no conception of collective action anymore, being highly individualized, atomized subjects of consumer culture. Of course, changing the world alone is impossible, so you've got to stan for some politician; fandom is a familiar mode anyway
