The cool thing about space is it doesn't respect the capitalist mindset of corner-cutting and bluffing through aesthetics so this shit will end badly, it's just a question of when.
It would be funny if when it goes wrong it's over some really dumb basic penny pinching thing. Like they didn't use ECC ram to save literally a few hundred dollars and a cosmic ray made the on board computer crash.
The real question is… will they make up excuses like that to cover up something even dumber, or will it always be too expensive/impractical to actually verify a case like that? Because I have a hard time believing private companies will actually give enough of a shit to spend “after-the-fact cosmic ray detection” money to figure out why an oopsie happened
