Herbert Lee was an American civil rights activist remembered as a proponent of voting rights for African Americans in Mississippi, who had been disenfranchised since 1890. He was a charter member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Amite County and sought to enfranchise black Americans by encouraging voter registration.
In 1961, Lee assisted Bob Moses, a field secretary with Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), in his efforts to persuade locals to register. His activities were met with threats of reprisal by the white community, and Lee became one of the movement's earliest victims to white violence. On this day in 1961, Lee was murdered by Mississippi state representative E. H. Hurst (1908 - 1990) in broad daylight at the cotton gin while delivering cotton near Liberty.
Hurst killed Lee with a single shot to the head, but later claimed in court that he was defending himself after Lee attacked him with a tire iron. An all-white jury ruled that the killing was a justifiable homicide. In 1964, civil rights activist Louis Allen was killed after he informed federal investigators that his testimony in the case was forced on threat of violence.

today was interesting to say the least for me lol
Sometimes I fantasize about living one year of the life of a slightly spoiled cat in a loving home.
One good year of eating, sleeping, purring, zooming, kneading, loafing, being adored and receiving :headpat:s, and not worrying about the shit I worry about as a human?
Would be kinda nice ngl :meow-tankie:
My cat is so funny with his kneading. He does it on everything and if there's nothing around he does it on the air while getting a pet laying down. He's a good boy.
He sounds like a good boy :meow-melt:
He's very sweet and loving but he has a nervous demeanor anything makes him jump and he's known to just go off and hide under the bed for no reason.
Some cats are nervous like that I guess. Mine two will not show themselves at all if there's what they see as strangers over
My old cats were so spoiled, I'd love to have lived their lives :meow-melt: they were hairless though and I dont know if I'd enjoy being so cold
Hm, were you still allergic to them if they were hairless? :brow:
Yeah, they still produce dander which is what im allergic to but at that time I didn't know I was allergic to cats and just thought sneezing all the time, eczema, and my eyes randomly burning was normal lol. I also had 2 cats with fur at that time so I was just surrounded by dander
So much dander, sounds awful :ooooooooooooooh:
It wasn't as bad then because I developed the allergy after years of having cats and since I was surrounded by them my body could tolerate it better than it can now. It only got really bad after the cats we had then, died, then my parents got more cats because by then my body had no tolerance whatsoever 🙃
There is one theory of the afterlife that you come back as your own pet. It's kind of a monkeys paw afterlife, depending on what kind of pet owner you are
Would certainly be a karmic afterlife
