Bhagat Singh was born on 27 September 1907.

Indian revolutionary and a major figure in the Indian independence movement of the early Twentieth Century. Singh was active in revolutionary struggle from an early age and he was briefly affiliated with the Mohandas Ghandi’s “Non-Cooperation” movement, although Singh would break with Ghandi’s philosophy of non-violent resistance later in life.

Singh embraced atheism and Marxism-Leninism and integrated these key components into his philosophy of revolutionary struggle. Under his leadership, the Kirti Kissan Party was renamed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Organization. As Singh and his organization rose to new prominence in the Indian independence movement, they became the focus of public criticism from Ghandi himself, who disagreed with their belief that violence was a necessary and vital component of revolutionary struggle.

Singh’s secularism was perhaps his most important contribution to the socialist and independence struggles. During those turbulent times, British Imperialism used every tactic to create antagonism among the different religions of India, especially between Hindus and Muslims. The Sanghatan and Shuddi Movements among Hindus; and tableegh and many sectarian movements in Muslims bear witness to the effects of this tactic. Bhagat Singh removed his beard which was a violation of Sikh religion, because he did not want to create before the public the image of a ‘Sikh’ freedom fighter. Nor did he want to be held up as a hero by the followers of this religion. He wanted to teach the people that British Imperialism was their common enemy and they must be united against it to win freedom.

On April 8, 1924, Baghat Singh and his compatriot B. K. Dutt hurled two bombs on to the floor of the Central Delhi Hall in New Delhi. The bombs were tossed away from individuals so as not to harm anyone and, in fact, no one was harmed in the ensuing explosions. Following the explosions, Singh and Dutt showered the hall with copies of a leaflet that later was to be known as “The Red Pamphlet.” The pamphlet began with a passage which was to become legendary in the Indian revolutionary struggle:

“It takes a loud voice to make the deaf hear, with these immortal words uttered on a similar occasion by Vaillant, a French anarchist martyr, do we strongly justify this action of ours.”

Singh and Dutt concluded the pamphlet with the phrase “Long Live the Revolution!” This phrase (translated from “Inquilab Zindabad!” became one of the most enduring slogans of the Indian Independence Movement.

Singh and Dutt turned themselves in following the bombing incident. Following the trial, they were sentenced to “transportation for life” and while imprisoned, Singh and Dutt became outspoken critics of the Indian penal system, embarking on hunger strikes and engaging in agitation and propaganda from within the confines of the prison. Shortly after the commencement of his prison sentence, Singh was implicated in the 1928 death of a Deputy Police Superintendent. Singh acknowledged involvement in the death and he was executed by hanging on 23 March 1931.

Bhagat Singh is widely hailed as a martyr as a result of his execution at the hands of oppressors and, as such, he is often referred to as “Shaheed (Martyr) Bhagat Singh.”

Wmill's Moscow problems :putin-wink:

So one winner for the weekend and it's comrade @LeninWeave so :rat-salute:.

Previous answer

According to the will, the son gets 2/3, the daughter gets 1/3, and on average the widow gets 1.5/3 ([1/3+2/3]/2). That's a total of 4.5/3, so the new denominator should be 4.5, or 9 for an integer. To keep it close to the will, I'd give the son 4/9, the daughter 2/9, and the widow 3/9.

The alarm clock

An alarm clock runs 4 minutes slow every hour. It was set right 3 1/2 hours ago. Now another clock, which is correct, shows noon.

In how many minutes, to the nearest minute, will the alarm clock show noon?

Like usual have fun :soviet-heart: and remember to dm @Wmill the answer.

I have a question for the Linux nerds. Other than the privacy thing, which makes sense, what do u actually use it for?

Like, when u went from Windows/Mac to Linux, what are things that u can do with Linux that u couldn't with the old OS, or that work a lot better on Linux than ur old OS?

I'm told u can customize things, what did u customize?

Mostly it wasn't even about privacy, security, or customizability, it was just because my laptop had pretty weak specs and Linux has less resource overhead compared to Windows 10. Boots a LOT faster and less crap running in the background in the beginning.

See this makes sense to me, Idk why but people always seem really vague about what it's useful for, this is good to know cause my computer is pretty weak too.

Yeah there's a bit of a gulf between the potential that IT and dev background folks see, vs. the basic needs and wants of most end users.

Right right right, like if ur job is to make computers do stuff in specific ways or troubleshoot when they're fucked up, I totally get how then "I can see all the info and make it deliver it to me exactly how I want" thing would be super useful, but for someone who doesn't do that it's a little less clear what sorts of actual things I'd do with it. It seems like there's some interesting stuff though, the dual booting thing Eco is telling me about seems like an okay way to try it out without risking fucking things up too bad lol.

Yup, mostly designed for Raspberry Pis, but I wanted to run a VTT server and have it accessible by a url I bought a while back.

Then I can finally get some Hexbear DnD going

Oh so like roll 20, but custom made? That's very cool. And I guess raspberry pi makes it easier to make something like that?

Right right, raspberry pi is like a little single board computer, I remember a co-worker was into those a while back. And it runs on Raspberry OS which is a Linux system, so if u want to host something from it u need to use that OS, got it ty.

People have been trying to convince me to get Linux for my computer and I'm just trying to figure out what I'd reasonably use it for. It's a learning curve so I wouldn't want to go for it unless I have a specific goal, like you do with your thing.

But some game and programs havent been written in linux.

Also a lot of shit is free

Free shit is good. I'd like a free photo editing software that's actually decent, I know they said gimp has a lot of the tools photoshop does which is cool. I've done a little bit of video editing in the past but the free software I could get was pretty bad, so something like that would be nice.

The truth is I don't use my computer for much because my hobbies are mostly physical or in person things, so I'm trying to figure out if the learning curve is worth it for me. But I also think there's probably stuff I take for granted cause I've never used anything else, so if I were to do Linux there might be stuff that would occur to me that would be actually useful. Thus I'm interrogating Linux nerds until something clicks lol.

      Two big things for me:

Most developer tools are built around and for Linux. Some dont even work on other operating systems (they leverage Linux specific features).

Also i3 is really nice. Tiling wms just remove the process of organizing all of your windows and put them in different desktops which are easily and quickly accessible.

That makes sense with developer tools, although I can't say I have any plans to develop things, it's not really my job or my hobbies.

Tiling wms just remove the process of organizing all of your windows and put them in different desktops which are easily and quickly accessible.

Easy and quick access to ur shit however is very appealing to me, ur saying it's got a thing to have multiple desktops at once with different windows open? Because that's cool I like that.

        • DashEightMate [any]
          ·

Yeah, with tiling window managers like i3 they essentially fill all windows on a desktop to "tile" or fit the screen. You can then have multiple desktops that you can easily swap between with a hotkey. Everything is very hotkey based so there's some learning curve, but when you get a hang of it you can get very productive

Hotkeys are fun, okay I support this.
