I get what you're saying but Henry Ford certainly didn't envision it that way.
I will build a motor car for the great multitude....so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one
Yes but that's exactly the point. As soon as a good that operates as a luxury good is made available to all it just fucking sucks, regardless of intent.
Came here to post this.
Mass motoring effects an absolute triumph of bourgeois ideology on the level of daily life. It gives and supports in everyone the illusion that each individual can seek his or her own benefit at the expense of everyone else. Take the cruel and aggressive selfishness of the driver who at any moment is figuratively killing the “others,” who appear merely as physical obstacles to his or her own speed. This aggressive and competitive selfishness marks the arrival of universally bourgeois behavior, and has come into being since driving has become commonplace.
Glad you read it, it's one of my favorite essays. Encapsulates everything I hate about cars in a really easily digestible form, well written to boot.
Electric cars are bad. They're not as bad as ICE cars, and we'll probably have to live with electric cars to some extent, but they're still bad.
something people don't seem to realize that the west ditching ICE cars for electric just means all the "obsolete" ICE cars just end up being used in the global south instead since they don't have electric car infrastructure. The cheap transport vehicles might help their economies but the climate isn't going to notice a difference. (It might actually be worse when you consider production emissions for a new car and the electric grid generation mix)
How will it help their economies? Just load up a motorbike for low value goods and higher value goods already justify transport costs.

one good thing is that the lithium in car batteries will mostly be recyclable, or the battery itself can be used for other things even if the car is old and damaged
Where do you think the elves and the dwarves and the fae went? We paved right over them.
You're right, they should say more-than-human to highlight what living creatures do have, and not what they lack
Well considering they lack aspirations and goals to be broken ("dreams" as used above), I'd say that's the relevant part.
It comes from an american indian studies framework where you define things by what they have and not what they lack. So indigenous peoples not colonized peoples. More than human animals, not non human animals. Healing communities not broken communities. Get it?
Again, the relevant information here is what they lack compared to humans.
And secondly, "more than human" just makes no sense and is pretty subjective without specifying what quality they have "more" of. Non-human is just objectively true, they aren't humans.
To be fair, running all those broken-dream engines is gonna compound some issues
Cars are bad, yes. But I guess if I’m given the choice between driving an ICE car and driving an electric car, I’d rather go with the latter.
