      You're wrong about the European relationship to Christianity. Europeans doesn't care about going to church, they care about the true meaning of Christianity, namely that it is not Islam. Belief in "not Islam" is an important part of European culture as it justifies their rabid islamophobia.

      Most colonizers were protestant, and therefore got mad at the idea of an indulgence. Instead they believed God gave you money for being good, even if you were actively stealing that money from other people.

        There were still the Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian-Americans. Catholic colonialism hadn't taken off yet when indulgences were at their height but it took over as much of the world as protestant colonialism.
