I've got access to hbo and I'm thinking about watching Chernobyl. Will I be able to watch it, or am I gonna hear some really stupid take in the first few minutes and have to turn it off?
Edit: I watched The Brest Fortress. https://youtu.be/lw3mDJ0qdp0 Excellent, but very sad.
There's a lot of anti-communist and anti-Soviet sentiment woven in the fabric of an otherwise well made mini series.
As I remember it, they will depict characters (those in power usually) as total dipshits and yet also conniving geniuses. Basically, anything to paint the system and those in it as anything but functional and useful. There's also an emphasis on the lives destroyed but keep in mind other man made disasters are often far worse in their destructive reach and take for longer to "clean up." Oil spills come to mind. It's not like the Western world hasn't had any nuclear reactors meltdown either.
So yeah, it's kind of a fucked up roller coaster of emotions where there's a lot of sympathy for the average Russian involved but little to no recognition of the ways the then government acted correctly/quickly.
Won't lie though, it's well put together.
