I used to see billboards and ads for these performances all the time when I was younger. Just always figured it was fancy theater shit that was above my head.

Yeah this shit was everywhere when I lived in Boston. Posters and subway ads all over the place for Shen Yun, people in the Common or down by Fanieul Hall with posters pushing conspiracies about organ harvesting, that sort of thing. Big Falun Gong presence there I think.

Apparently they're dancing and then a huge Marx face comes out of the sky and a tsunami sweeps them away.

Holy shit if I could see that without paying I'd be all over out. Especially if I could get stoned off my gourd first

ya, this dance troop must be touring US cities at least once a year, I recognize this advertising as well

never actually looked into it enough to see Falun Gong connection

      that's freaky as hell

      edit:

and I just though this was some Chinese ballet-adjacent thing

Shen Yun is composed of seven performing arts companies,[4] with a total of approximately 480 performers.[5] Shen Yun has performed in front of millions[6] and has toured more than 130 cities across Europe, North America, Oceania, and Asia.

Falun Gong adherents pay to rent the performance venue, promote the show, and sell tickets, with the profit going to Shen Yun.[1] The finances of Shen Yun and Falun Gong appear to be linked, with technically separate corporations sharing funds, executives and the same mission.[3] Li Hongzhi [FG founder] describes the Shen Yun performance as a means of "saving" audiences.

It's actually even better. It's run by an actual cult who hate gay people and race mixing, and think you can fly with your mind.
