such a stupid game
Chess is the official game of the trans ideology because the pawns can turn into queens, rooks, bishops and/or knights.
queens gambit and pandemic. also basically everyone at least knows somewhat how to play chess
There was this whole pandemic thing that caused people to be stuck inside and become huge nerds
Basically this.
Personally, for me, it's been one of those things in the back of my mind that always seemed intimidating as a dork that enjoys board games. Chess hits that sweet spot of easy to learn the basics, but insanely deep to learn.
The Beth Harmon smoking and drinking hour also got me interested in playing.
i usually hate board games because I get antsy but chess can be quick and enjoyed in small spurts.
People who are good at chess seem to love the stalemate rule but I don't get it. It's probably because I'm bad at chess, but it's such an unintuitive rule to me. You maneuver your opponent into a position where they literally can't do anything and somehow that's a draw? Ridiculous. Clearly tic tac toe is the superior game.
You maneuver your opponent into a position where they literally can’t do anything and somehow that’s a draw
usually this results in your opponent resigning? Or do you mean there are no legal moves left?
draws are stupid though when it's not forced. bruh just play the game and wait til someone fucks up
Yeah the situation where your opponent can't make any legal moves because moving any piece would put them in check.
ok ye i see your point but idk. someone who knows more about chess could explain why it works that way. :shrug-outta-hecks:
I mean the alternative would be no endgame in competitive play because the losing player would just resign rather than playing out an inevitable defeat
Stalemate is a bit of a non-issue in competitive play when people have mating sequences down with their remaining material though. Drawing by move repetition is way more common.
Everyone always thinks I can at chess cause I give off that vibe, but I honestly don't know what any of the prices do and only sort of even know the general goal.
I like a lot of strategy games but I'm with you on chess. It just doesn't click with me.
Although I've never actually seen or played it, I do remember my father raving about how great it was. That was back in the 90s when I didn't have a computer but he did, and would go on long rambling descriptions of shit I had no context for it in a manner not unlike some of my friends now who are now nearly as old as he was at the time. Fuck that's weird to think about.
