It must suck to be a non-Zionist Jew and see political cartoons use the Star of David to represent a Zionist genocide.

I’ve always said that one of the most anti-semitic things has got to be the way the West used the Zionist project for colonialism, because they know they can use the entire Jewish identity to hide their imperial motives. It’s just scapegoating with a twist.

Anyways, I’m Palestinian and I hope it’s some condolence that most of us know that Zionism is not synonymous with Judaism, and have respect for the culture and the religion.

Surely this type of thing is the right place to use the IOF flag, idf-cool right? And also, the conflation of all Jews with Zionism is exactly what Israel wants, right?

Do the Star of David taps indicate that it's Israelis dying or that they're causing the deaths? Because one of those answers is a lot more lib than the other.

Also surely this cartoonist has already been fired.

Do the Star of David taps indicate...

I think the general consensus by the American media is that it's an antisemitic cartoon. That leads me to believe people are outraged because they look at the cartoon and think of it as the Israelis causing deaths.

Also surely this cartoonist has already been fired.

As far as I know - that hasn't happened and there isn't even talk (rumors, gossip) that the Buffalo News is considering it. It's worth noting that he's a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist. That's the sort super-important imprimatur libs have a hard time going against.

to me, the ideal political cartoon forces you to enter the mind of a person so alien and bizarre to you that pilots an array of symbols that you had never even considered. like, oh yeah, the skull faucet. the one in biden's bathroom. i gotcha.

Oof, I'm not a fan of the way the star of david is used here, even if the cartoon is otherwise good

I'm not a fan either but it's a question of how to depict Israel without it because it's the most recognisable feature of their flag. We even use an adapted version so we're not burning the star here on hexbear.

      isntrael

Very difficult problem for cartoons and symbols really.

Take it up with Israel. If they didn't want the star of david to be seen as a symbol of hate and genocide, then maybe they shouldn't have put it on the flag of a nation that does hate and genocide

that's not rlly much help for the many jews around the world who both despise the state of "israel" and also are victims of antisemitism

it's not hard to distinguish "israel" from judaism and jews, so you should.
