Except Asian cultures don't originally see themselves as "yellow" and Europeans as "white", because they're not trying to fit themselves into a black/white dichotomy that 18th century western scholars invented.

If you consider traditional art and literature of the region, you're not looking at characters painted like they fell out of a Simpsons episode or descriptions of individuals that harp on skin tone. Even modern arts - anime being an obvious example - don't have these sharp skin-tone disparities between Eastern and Western people. Its just not a thing Eastern block residents think about. The need to bucket people by skin tone is an extremely American fixation.

When the Soviet Union was the Big Bad, all accounting of history and geopolitics became about the Soviet Union controlling everything. North Korea, Soviet puppet. Vietnam, Soviet puppet. Cuba, Soviet puppet.

So in this second Cold War, I would not put it past them to send the CPC back in time through history and somehow make them the puppet masters of the puppet masters.

Bolshevism would've never happened if Karl Marx had never been born. And you know who gave birth to Karl Marx? ... China.

The dickhead from from Op's post is right. The yellow was chosen to show China belongs to the Chinese people. @Bunhead post below explains how its not racist to them.

Interestingly the original flag had the hammer and sickle in the biggest star. But it was cut due to being to similar to the Soviet flag. :soviet-huff:

I mean china's flag is pretty cool. Check out the original proposal though.

I am not exactly sure what you want sourced ? This is the wiki source (offical CCP page).

As @Bunhead said, yellow being seen as lesser came solely from whites being racist. You know the whole yellow terror shit.

Zeng Liansong repeatedly read the notices from newspapers such as People’s Daily, Xinhua Daily, and Jiefang Daily to solicit national flag patterns, and got inspiration from what people often say: "Hope for the stars and the moon": The Communist Party of China-Isn’t it China? The savior of the people! Therefore, he decided to use a five-pointed star to symbolize the great Chinese Communist Party. He imagined that a big star would lead in the front, and a few small stars would surround the back, like many stars arching a big dipper. The big five-pointed star symbolizes the great Communist Party of China, and the small star symbolizes the majority of the people. The people closely surround the party. Around, unite and fight, from victory to victory. He also designed the five-pointed star to be yellow, which is not only in harmony with the red symbolizing revolution, it resembles a red glow, golden light, simple and solemn, and also expresses the national characteristics of the yellow race of the Chinese people.

I'm curious why the page has been removed from People's Daily. Chinese Wikipedia cites "Cihai" (ISBN 7532600831), stating 星用黃色是為了在紅地上顯出光明 (The star uses yellow to show light on the red ground)

You can find a few different reasons for the yellow. Another common one that seems at least partially true is some of Zeng's earliest designs included a horizontal bar to represent the ... yellow river. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_River

My guess its a mix of all of them after they wanted a reason for the yellow after they cut Zeng's beloved Yellow river. lol

All the sources on the wiki really old. They will all lead to 404s without the wayback machine. All the sites have been completely remade... probably a couple of times.

I mean, I'd have just gone with a big hammer-and-sickle instead of using it as a relief within the star. Honestly, prefer the simpler design.

They wanted to differentiate it from the USSR flag. Yes, they did use the same gold star idea to represent the party just like the USSR flag. lol

The Chinese party does use the hammer and sickle in place of the party star on the county's flag and does not have the other 4 stars.

You mean like the CCP flag but having the 4 other stars ? That would look pretty cool.

    >(yes, really)

it's extra irritating when a lie is followed by this shit

well apparently I have put my foot in it and there's (supposedly) a quotation from Mao on this "yellow race" claim. but whatever

Yellow was the emperor's color in Imperial China and is held as the symbolic color of the five legendary emperors of ancient China, such as the Yellow Emperor.

this together with the existing Soviet flag clearly factoring in make me willing to put this into the category of Mao's mistakes if the quote is genuine

It may be my own experience from being in a mixed family, but East Asian people just seem white to me. The rest of the flag seems correct.
