Hey, I'm trying to get back into learning French again. Say what you will about :france-cool: and its empire, but its working class kinda rules (please don't bully me in the afterlife, Mr. Sankara).
I have grown more and more angry at just how popular the right-wing is, and I am hoping that the right isn't the political default in Francophone countries and that chan/Amerikkkan "culture" hasn't poisoned the minds of people into being vulgar pigs. So if there's a corner of the internet/media sphere in another language that's more polite, I'd be happy to learn about it.
France has been linked to the assassination of 22 African presidents since 1963
Well France has had soldiers with machine guns patrolling beaches to prevent anyone wearing burkhas and has massive support for far right politicians among young people one of whom is a favourite to win the next election. Also Charlie Hebdo is French so yes it is definitely at least as bad
after checking wikipedia it seems the state of emergency was traded for more official “counterterrorism” legislation which i suppose just normalized the state of emergency
French here, this is exactly what happened.
Also, for OP: if you want an OK French media source try Mediapart.
Considering that france straight up censored most shit about their activities in Algeria for decades, ehh probably not. But I don't really know.
I was just reading Foreignexchanges and how French troops in Mali just killed a woman on her motorcycle in unclear circumstances. France is an active empire
Wait until you find out the franc is still in circulation, but only in Africa. France sells these countries their currency and in return receives their resources. Why do you think they were so keen to off Khadaffy? His plan was to introduce an African gold-backed dinar and remove the bankers' vampire squid beaks from the people's faces.
Wait the Trump idiots had the wrong Dinar, it was the Libyan dinar they shouldve backed all along
But jokes aside yeah that shit is depressing AF
No, no, no, no, no. I'm trilingual, and speak English, French, and Spanish. (All three very poorly) Please, I'm begging you to just learn Spanish instead. It's not brain-poison-proof, but left wing sources are much more prevalent and overall better. French is a dead end into hellish chudland, and having conversations with francophones here in Canada and abroad, chudmerican culture is just as, if not more prevalent in french compared to english, at least in western heads.
I was gonna say this. Like Spanish, followed by Russian Slavic, would be good European languages to learn since they have vast numbers of speakers around the world and have strong socialist Currents in the countries that speak their languages
Mandarin, obviously, as well, but of course everyone here knows that.
Mandarin has sparked my interest for sure, but I had some high hopes for French just because the working class there seemed pretty cool.
Working class Francophones were largely cool up until like, the 70s.
I'm hoping to learn Russian Slavic after I get a good handle on Century Gothic.
Kinda what I was worried would be true, but at least as I'm learning Spanish, I might have decent chats with people from the global south, since I know very little about Latin America, I hope to learn a lot.
you're not in luck we're now at the equivalent of 2016 in the us timeline, culture war and all
The far right is more popular than ever, in a good part due to the exposure & support of the medias, so yeah no.
TBH I kinda wish we had public debates between intellectuals on our TV.
I remember during an election like two years ago, a televised debate on the subject of immigration or Islam or something along those lines, where one of Macrons cronies attacked Marie le pen from the right.
Brave center politician defending France from rabid commie antifa le pen.
I'd need more than "based protesters" before I'd pick up a third language, and French is very low on the list as is.
The leading candidates in polls for France's Presidential election next year are:
Macron - incumbent. Neoliberal Jupiter-wannabe. Thinks Africans need France to civilize them.
Marine Le Pen - a fascist
Eric Zemmour - a right-wing journalist who has identified as a "Bonapartist" and has been cited multiple times for racial hatred.
How do you think that reflects on their Overton Window?
