Starting in Season 2, I'd say they're about on par. They each have strengths and weaknesses that balance each other out. [I only just recently finished the third book, so maybe they pull ahead of the show later on]
Maybe by the late seasons but going through the first and then second book in audio form so far I thought the first three seasons made some improvements to the overall plot and feel of the setting.
I actually just started last week after failing to get into it for years and I’m so glad I did.
First season is sooo good, not liking the second one as much but it’s such an entertaining show. Still uncertain about the politics but w/e.
The books go a lot more into the politics and at one point the crew basically does a syndicalism when deciding how to organize their business as a mercenary crew. Anarchists do an adventurism and mars as a USSR allegory suffers an existential crisis due to material conditions outside their control in the latter books. They're pretty good for sci-fi written by libs. Earth is a shithole where most people subsist on meager UBI and massive sea walls hold back the ocean because capitalism still exists and of course we didn't solve climate change.
Watched the first five seasons a couple weeks ago. It was mediocre lib shit.
But I will be watching this anyway.
You're not really wrong. The politics are shitty and they kinda had potential to be good. I do think its an above average sci fi show though.
At least they acknowledge a political stance beyond liberalism, but of course after setting up the belter communists they have to turn them into genocidal maniacs and move all the "good ones" into a goofy anarchist pirate colony.
Picked Nemesis Games back up last night, so excited to read it and Babylon's Ashes before season 6 airs
Yeah I was enjoying the show until last season. After the 5th scene of Naomi grunting and crying and trying to fix something I had to tap out. I guess I'll probably watch the last season, only 6 episodes so if it sucks idk. Really is too bad, some of the earlier seasons were flawed but they always had great buildup to the finale.
is good. keeps getting better season to season until it sort of plateaus from season 4 on but is good.
there was some vague class politics in season 5 otherwise it's mostly lib.
It's like Star Trek if humanity never built a warp drive and instead just built really fuel efficient engines that let them accelerate indefinitely.
Which means space capitalism for fueling the drives.
