Last Duel has a final battle that is an all timer, the rape culture commentary is accurate, disturbing, morbidly funny and raised some new ideas I had trouble pining down (fascinating self-aware rapist POV). Jodie Comer and Adam Driver are doing excellent work, Matt Damon is playing crazy-against type (refreshing but also hard to adjust to) And as you may have heard Ben Affleck is doing career best 'Dudes Rock' work.
What'd we think?
Agree with you completely. Loved how the movie, even through the way it's structured to make 2/3rds of the movie from the male perspective, reinforces the entrenched concept of women being seen as property. It's a really biting critique of patriarchy, while still being entertaining.
And 100% agree about Affleck. Loved his performance as Lord Nympho Asshole
I think the POV thing is really greatly done- they're not largely different realities. Most of them just omit details rather than actively changing anything significant (with the exception of things like how shoes fell off and a few reaction shots)
A great example is the Adam Driver pre-rape scene, where in his version he's waxing lyrical and doing the mock dancing thing he did with women at those orgies; whereas in the real version he barely says anything half as poetic and the 'dancing fighting scene is way more horrific. Both are still horrifying, but it's just slight exaggeration or omittance.
