I never understood the appeal of subway. I buy takeaway when I don't have the time and/or energy to cook so the idea of standing there being interrogated over what sandwich you want both terrifies and confuses me.

Inflation busting. The meal deal held at £3 for years, and was way more substantial than a supermarket sandwich.

Either I buy a cheap sandwich at the supermarket or go somewhere I where I pay more for better quality fastfood. Subway seems to have sit-down fastfood prices but supermarket-grade quality. Also I can throw a sandwich together at home quickly without cooking. I can't do that for other kinds of fastfood. I have no idea what target audience Subway is even supposed to serve.

It's fucking bizarre. Like if I'm going to a sandwich joint I want you, the restaurant, to give me the sandwich that you have invented and is your specialty. Why would I want to customize ? You, the restaurant, are the experts in the sandwich presumably? If not then I'll just go make one at home right lol?
