      • Incumbent mayor, who sucks, is in a good position
      • Charter amendment 1, which increases the mayors power, looks likely to pass. This will shift power to the whiter and wealthier parts of the city that vote more.
      • Charter amendment 2, which would have replaced the police department with a department of public safety, failed.

            I don't even understand the 10 billion cops thing. Mexico has really heavily militarized police rolling around and look how that is turning out....

            It only becomes "good" when you go full Pinochet and declare a curfew for like, a decade and give the police complete impunity and then at the point what the fuck is the point of calling yourself "land of the free"

            of course the essence here is that Pinochet style authoritarianism would only extend to poor whites and ESPECIALLY brown people, but still literally why do people want shit like this
