      They had quite a fierce reputation to the ancient Greeks. There's also some evidence that the Scythians wore their pointy hats more when conducting trade than in their own lands, because they knew they were seen as the pointy hat people.

            Do it!

            All I know is that nomadic peoples tend to have very nice clothes, and that when I tried looking them up there was hats, hats, hats, hats. But I didn't notice any scholarly sources saying "yeah steppe nomads love hats" or anything.
