    I honestly doubt the veracity of any of these anecdotes. But even if they are true, I see equally gigantic inefficiencies and failures in the American economy all the time. I was a construction inspector for years, and it was super common to have freshly installed copper stripped overnight, sometimes by the guys who had just installed it, and requiring it to be installed again.

    And that I'd just an anecdote. On a systemic level the US economy is insanely inefficient and wasteful by design.
