This is just the left-wing version of conservatives who say "the Nazis were socialist, actually"

Fascism is not a right wing form of socialism, it's the right wing of capitalism.

No no, I should have been more clear. Nationalist / isolationist socialism led to abandonment of international solidarity and a weakening of the movement that created a power vacuum that was exploited by fascists.

That lack of coherence created an opening for fascists to performitively appropriate some leftist imagery / terminology early on to con the working class into supporting reactionary “populist” orgs. Most of those aspects were then purged / dropped after seizing power. If I remember right, that’s part of what was happening during the night of the long knives.

Similar to liberalism, social chauvinism’s self-centeredness causes it to advance the material conditions that reactionaries can exploit. It also almost always winds up in support of imperialism.

This is different than “siege socialism” or “socialism in one country” in that those are responses to outside conditions and still have the eventual goal of international liberation. You have to protect the revolution within the current state apparatus the people have controlled for that international revolution to have a hope of occuring.

Hope that was clear. It’s been a long day of work and I haven’t had my pumpkin spice latte yet. If I’m misusing some terms or something feel free to explain / walk me through.
