Oh yeah, I'm just surprised, Smash bros has a reputation for people trying to ban other players for having girlfriends (because it gives them an "unfair advantage") or sending CW:SA

    spoiler

Death and rape threats to female players for beating them, not idle stuff either, fucked up shit like saying they'll be waiting for them outside after the tournament.

and of course the classic "players will avoid showering for months before a tournament so their stench distracts their opponent."

quite the opposite experience ive had in tournaments ive attended. it's of the few geeky events where ive seen people WITH their SO often. FGCs in general also tend to be the most trans friendly group relative to other hobbyist stuff. The biggest reason why it's reletively speaking more friendly because its hard to shit talk people when most of the event is done solely in person, so you get less of an online persona to start namecalling with anonymity immunity. At least, pre online matchmaking age.

I am talking about stuff that mainly happened a decade ago I believe, so it would make sense that local tournaments would fight hard against that kind of reputation. Competitive games thrive on having a large playerbase, not a small roster of half a dozen insufferable assholes who have chased everyone else away.
