A few christmases ago I worked at a grocery store on Xmas eve, there was only 2 cashiers maybe plus 4 self checkouts. We closed at 5 and at 5 there was a line wrapping from the front all the way down the aisles.
My store manager WENT THROUGH MY LINE said something like "Man this looks rough" and FUCKING LEFT.
Correct, you need an effective deterrent. Xmas is retail hell even for grocery stores. Nobody is banging down the doors on black Friday but it gets overwhelming.
Totally believe you, I've had a panic attack in a grocery store trying to pick up a couple things a full week before Christmas. You're braver than the troops for working there
