haha, funny you mention that. it's my least favorite part too. i agonized over that for a while, tried bringing in a bunch of elements to announce the horns in a non intrusive way but in the end i couldn't find anything i was happy with and was ultimately "okay" with having the horns announce themselves at the beginning, but i do agree that it's slightly "big" for the vibe at that moment. once they get going i found my ear was used to them enough to pull them out and put them back in for parts, but yeah i did really struggle with a way to introduce them more subtly. the mix isn't done yet so possibly i can still update it, if i can find a workable solution anyway lol. open to any suggestions too! appreciate the feedback.
If it's cool then, I was gonna say those sets of horn jabs at like 1:10 and then later, sound kind of stiff. Some of em sound cool like that but on some it's sounds like one note needs to be slightly lengthened to give it the right swing or something. Idk. That's just what I thought of. It's good. Like the strings at the end
Yeah, yeah! This! I've been thinking about this track all afternoon, and that's what I thought after listening to it a few more times! The horns have a lil bit of a Star Fox 64 vibe, and don't quite mesh with the more robust instruments in the rest of the soundfont (I learned a music word thing today! I think?).
Edit: No matter what dumb bullshit I said or will say about your music, it cranked hard enough that I listened to it several times. I don't know music, but I know what I like, and I like this.
haha cool, thanks. yeah the horns are a mix of kontakt brass and some synths layered on top to give body, possibly some notes could be lengthened or finessed/accented a bit better. it's my first foray into horns and i'm already in love with them, might buy some fancier kontakt libraries soon.
yeah, makes sense. probably the third note on the first main riff could be lengthened, maybe a few others. i'll play around with it in kontakt, it's a bit limited because its the standard vsl library but i think it might work with some finessing, possibly sampling. glad you liked the strings, also vsl. appreciate the feedback, definitely useful!
