    Sometimes I feel like not being born into a catholic family is a superpower. Catholicism in particular seems to really fuck people up.

    I mean, I'm sure that a hardcore fundamentalist evangelical upbringing can also do a number, but it seems like just having been a practicing catholic just gets real deep in there. For instance, everyone I've talked to in real life or almost everyone I've seen bring it up on the internet who are terrified by ghosts or demons are or were catholic.

    Then again I suppose I just can't see my own born-into-a-Methodist-family-but-staunch-Reddit-style-lel-epic-athiest brainworms.

      Yeah it took me years to get over the psychological damage that 12 years of Catholic school did to me, and my parents weren't even especially strict about it

      I'm several generations removed from familial Catholicism and there's still quite a bit of residual brainworms going around, Catholic guilt being the big one
