Day before I was positive, everybody in Walmart was coughing or wearing masks. And of course the cold medicines were in the central display aisle ready to take their money. Very ominous.

Cold, Cough and Flu medicine up front, COVID tests all the way in the back (and fucking expensive)

If the amount of disgusting, wet coughs I've heard while grocery shopping is any indicator then it's already here

My friends with kids have basically given up on ever being healthy again. The resentment is so palpable too, they just show up to gatherings sick, blame their kids, and take no responsibility for who else at the gathering gets sick in their wake.

I fell victim to this over Christmas. Had spent a few months laying low, online shopping, no unnecessary peopleing and then the coughing group of dead eyed relatives with their kids descended on us. Both me and my partner have been sick now for 12 days, despite all the boosters.

Yeah, the boosters can’t hurt, but unfortunately they are always behind the current strain. My partner and I have gotten vaccines every 6 or so months, keeping up with every new version. She also got covid for the second time the week before Christmas because people refuse to stay home when sick. They will acknowledge they are sick and openly admit it as they walk into an enclosed space with healthy people, obviously without a mask.

Thankfully she is negative now, but still feeling the lingering effects. It’s really not worth it, we are going back into hobbit mode and just gonna hunker down with our cats.

Hope you and yours start to feel better soon!

The Biden administrations official policy is that it's not their problem.

Gosh, you'd think a government abandoning their citizens to a freaking plague would be the perfect opportunity for leftists to leverage.

I think I have it, but my covid test came back negative. I'm going to take it again just to be sure. Staying home and not spreading it--recognize my privilege that I'm able to stay home. USA, capitalist hellscape, even after going through worst pandemic in 100 years, still doesn't alot mandatory sick days for workers.

if you're a canuck the green box tests lack sensitivity after their tests results in the trials were adulterated https://globalnews.ca/news/10183219/covid-test-supplier-canada/

i assume the different colour of boxes mean different manufacturer, if that assumption is true than yes. you do have other options, i grabed a single box (1 free per person) containing 5 tests from costco, the box colour was blue and white.

the green box tests should work if you have a high viral load tho, and i suppose you could include swabbing your mouth and back of throat to help catch them covid particles on the swab.

The pandemic for me was when I just kind of gave up on the US ever getting better healthcare without a revolution. Like M4A? It ain't happening here, we'd rather everybody die or end up disabled than have worth-a-shit healthcare.

With recent variants it seems that it's possible to test negative on a nasal swab but positive on a throat swab.

Be sure to do both nose and throat, instead of one or the other. The latest variant is present in your lungs again (so it gets in your nose), unlike Omicron.

“BA.2.86 has regained a trait characteristic of early SARS-CoV-2 lineages: robust lung cell entry,” the authors wrote.

Mask back on I guess. Recently, I have better game when I wear a mask. I think people's mental projections regarding the lower half of my face are better than the lower half of my face. (Wailing and gnashing my teeth.)

Almost all of our iso rooms at my hospital have been used up and we've had to convert our overflow CCU units back into DIY iso sections like they were a couple years ago, meanwhile got coworkers calling out sick left and right. Gotta love how all those covid vaccine centers just kinda stopped being advertised and free this-is-fine

here's some analysis on why wastewater data isn't a good indicator. peep 5-10m

this is not to discount the seriousness of covid. it's easy to wear a mask just keep doing it tbh
