The "ten years" it took to "make" was mostly just it not being picked up for 9 years and the writer playing with the script and updating as necessary. Even if you include that in the time, it isn't exactly a 1:1 considering the time, effort, and skill it takes to create a single shot of higher quality TV vs a reality tv show rip-off of that same tv show.
Shaun's tweet put it nicely
I try not to hero-ize people but it gets harder with every skull boy tweet not to.
It only took 4-5 months for production and filming for nine episodes, so 30 days for a 20 minute or so YouTube video isn't all that impressive.
Pre-pro probably added 3 to 6 months on top of that, but still.
Wow, amazing how fast you can do something when you steal someone's elses successful idea!
What a piece of shit.
It's a signal of where the medium has been headed for a while. We will produce a piece of media that takes ten hours to watch and spin off a thousand hours of punditry around it.
The quality of the content pales beside the volume of interactions.
Why's everyone dunking on this? He's right. The future of entertainment is vapid, mass-produced garbage.
Respectfully disagree. Squid Games itself is proof that there's still original stuff coming out -- sure there will be a lot of garbage out there but it seems presumptuous to declare the death of entertainment when this video was based on a "good" piece of entertainment that came out ~2 months ago.
You might not like it, but technically Mr Beast's Squid Game thing is independent cinéma d'auteur.
A home-made dinner with vegetables and healthy ingredients takes ~ 1 hr to make and has ~800 calories.
An XL order of fries, large Pepsi, and 3 different kinds of dipping sauce, I can get in 5 minutes and has ~1000 calories.
More nutrition, less time working, freedom from toil. That’s the promise of the foodnow economy.
Damn, life is smooth sailing when you can just steal someone’s idea
Kind of a metaphor for our economy though isn't it. Just have Asia do the hard work, then have Americans sell it to other Americans and call it inventiveness.
If Community was still on, there would definitely be a Squid Game parody episode. And it would likely be more entertaining, and would reflect more of what made Squid Game entertaining, rather than superficially imitating its visuals and the rules of the games.
If that was to happen it would be clever. Something in the vain of paintball or pillow wars.
people talk about how nuclear winter would be so terrible, but at least this asshole would starve to death
one is a very entertaining piece of art, and the other is a YouTube video.
if we live in a world where YouTubers become the main form on entertainment then just please kill me
well hopefully it gets reality tv shows off normal television, but with Netflix's current reputation of canceling shows people actually like, it might be a race to the bottom all around..
if we live in a world where YouTubers become the main form on entertainment then just please kill me
There are some good YouTubers (BDG, ProZD, Kruggsmash, GMTK, probably a couple more) and I will die on this hill. Do I want YouTube to become the only form of entertainment? No, of course not. But is it a staple in my entertainment diet? Absolutely.
Ok!

It's all good. I particularly enjoy Souls Logic and also the amazingly well-produced short film they made, Baelin's Route.

Again, just a random trio of videos by him I enjoyed. These are definitely not the only good ones.

Hmmm.... I guess I could copy my comment to a post. That sounds like effort though. I'll think about it!
Come to think about, YouTube is basically broadcast tv on demand, considering it's mainly supported by ads. This kind of model used to support many great shows. Wonder why the whole "YouTube show" didn't make splash in the same format. Is it Google's money-grubbing ways?
No it took beast man atleast 10yrs and 7weeks to make his version. Interesting.
If I were playing minecraft with Mr. Beast and Henry Kissinger, I'd pickaxe Mr. Beast twice.
plus he's 98 yrs old, we joke about immortality but why do the reaper's work to let MrBeast live for another 80
