Growing up, every year my family would watch Elf at least 10 times over the holidays. I have seen that movie so much that I genuinely can't tell if it is good or bad. Is it my favourite Xmas movie? I don't know, but it is Elf, and it must be watched
I've never seen it but it came out when I was twelve and as an only child I cut out kids shit way earlier than those around me, especially those with younger siblings and kids would yell quotes from it. It seems fucking stupid. Will Ferrell can be funny on his own but he was in every awful early 2000s comedy. The only good Christmas movie is the Hogfather.

the first two-thirds of the movie are decent (creepy shower scene notwithstanding) it gets terrible toward the end

You need to watch it about 80 more times, then you won't feel anything
