I have seen graphs like this before, it happens around pretty much every change in the party of the president of the USA, and every time it is fucking incredible.

The worst one was the one among Dem primary voters in 2020, when it was clear that Biden will be the Dem nominee. Biden said something very pro-fracking and the polls a few days later showed that Dem primary voters completely switched on fracking, from ~70% oppose to ~60% favor. It wasn't even a question on "how you feel", it was a question on a very specific policy. "Oh, I guess I like fracking now, whatever".

Tbh this may very well be related to the phenomenon that opinion polling on any given issue can be swayed to a large extent by how questions are phrased and biased by preceding question. Like I don't think it's either people changing their opinion, or people blindly siding with their "team". It's that many democrats don't have a strong opinion on fracking, and by affirming their current support for Biden prior to question on facking a subconscious bias was introduced.

Really makes the whole dem "We govern by following polls" especially fucking stupid. Like its called being a leader, yes you listen to the people's needs first and foremost, but more importantly you educate and guide them.

you could run stories in american media telling people the sky is neon green for a few weeks, and they would fucking sneer derisively at you for telling them it's blue and pointing upwards and asking them to look. just the most credulous and easily led herd

amazing how quickly Biden turned the country from an underdeveloped feudal hellhole to a communist utopia. Lenin, Stalin and Mao would be jealous.

Lenin and Stalin took decades to transform their country, Biden did it in a day!

"The great political problem in our modern democracy is how to induce our leaders to lead.... No serious sociologist any longer believes that the voice of the people expresses any divine or specially wise and lofty idea. The voice of the people expresses the mind of the people, and that mind is made up for it by the group leaders in whom it believes and by those persons who understand the manipulation of public opinion. It is composed of inherited prejudices and symbols and clichés and verbal formulas supplied to them by the leaders."

Obviously Americans are brain dead but I wonder if the train of thought here is that under Trump there would not be a COVID lockdown so since republicans are brainwashed into thinking that not sacrificing old people to the capitalist gods will cause a total global economic collapse they thought the economy will grow under Trump and then of course democrats think that handling COVID and “getting back to normal” will fix the economy so once Biden was inaugurated republicans thought the economy was doomed and democrats thought it was fixed because obviously big evil communist Joe Biden will force a lockdown or vaccines. Of course neither of those things happened so now we are stuck with a shitty economy and COVID

That’s at least what I think since that narrative has been so heavily pushed by both sides of the media
