If the god damned New York Crimes actually gave a single shit about sexual violence they would've covered :epstein: from the first accusation instead of burying the story for years and letting the 2016 election be between two of his closest friends.

Journalists are enemies of the people.

What about the power imbalance between the individuals involved? It may not be a sexual assault but the tone of the article linked comes across as being too dismissive of Peng and her anger at being used by someone powerful. I am not approaching this as anything anti China or anti CCP. But as leftists, we shouldn't trivialize Peng's posts on Weibo as "sad outcry of a woman". The translation in the article mentions her anger of being used. Let's not be insensitive. Especially if there was indeed an assault and the CCP are doing some internal investigation in which case this article looks like shit.

I am not disagreeing with you. My only peeve is that article.

I agree that NYT and the Western media are taking advantage over it and showing their hypocrisy but that linked article comes across as very dismissive. We can criticize NYT and the western media without dragging Peng through the mud and calling her "a paranoid woman who was angry at her affair getting over".

I think that thesis is strengthened by the fact that Peng's public statements following this whole story have consistently been to deny that she made an allegation of sexual assault. Also given that Western media has a habit for "accidentally" fucking up translations in a way that for some reason always seems to paint America's enemies in the worst possible light.

Zhang Gaoli sounds like he sucks and it's good that he's not in government now.

What else do people want out of this?
