Dunno about the others, but abortion/ultrasound are very restricted/illegal in India precisely because of colonialism and patriarchy.
Because of the desperate economic situation of most people, in addition to conservative cultural norms, poor people esp. don’t want to have girl children. Boys are stronger and can work. They can be educated. And if they get married the family gets a dowry. So, if it turns out that the unborn child is a girl, it is aborted. Which means in India, unless you’re rich or have connections, you don’t even know the sex of your baby until it is born.
Liberal, cosmopolitan Indians are quick to adopt the western talking points and blame “Indian culture” for these practises without taking into account the economic base that creates and reinforces this cultural superstructure. The solution has to be improving the people’s material needs so they don’t need more kids to work on the farms, factories etc to feed the family. Cultural progression/advancement will go hand in hand with that as long as we have a government that cares for the people, rather than just profits.

Adding to this, you can do abortion without anyone's permission, even your spouse, in India. Not just for socio economic reasons.
Yeah, that’s a good point. Abortion is not illegal in India.
You can get an abortion up to 20 weeks in normal cases and 24 weeks in rape etc.
You just can’t get an ultrasound, learn your child is gonna be a girl, then go abort it.
They do this in Canada too. They just keep it hushed up.
