Cut that shitty talking point will ya.
Also, update the status of Argentina and Poland.
Well, the map is from 2016.
The implied "If the republicans do that, America will become like brown people!" talking point is peak :reddit-logo:
And if you analize it, yes, those countries' laws are more heavily shaped by religious zealots and conservative dickheads, so, yes, that's exactly what they want.
Abortion has disproportionately affected communities of color in America. Significantly, there are 2 million missing black people who could easily have kept Trump out of the White House. Personhood is always redefined to exclude the intended victim class.
people who get abortions tend to be impoverished which also disproportionately affects communities of color. I dont think the issue is abortion itself, as your link seems to purport, but rather disparity in access to resources. If poc were as financially secure as white people are, you wouldn't see this kind of "overuse" of abortion by poc compared to non-poc people
appropriating genuine issues for poc for anti-choice stuff like this is kinda weird to me tbh.
Significantly, there are 2 million missing black people who could easily have kept Trump out
this is also kinda silly :vote: shit.
Poc are also significantly less likely to vote than white people again bc of poverty and material conditions, even if no black person ever got an abortion there's no reason to think they would have lined up to vote trump out, or even not like trump bc a lot of poc do, they're not a monolith.
trump being in or out of office isn't even the real issue, he's a symptom of problems, over focusing on him is lib shit
this title is low key kind of chauvinist
also blanketing the us as "without restriction as to reason" is not really true, in a lot of southern states, particularly mine, we are de facto somewhere between "on socioeconomic grounds" and "to save the woman's life"
a pregnant person has to jump through so many loop holes to actually get an abortion here, sometimes including being made to listen to the fetus' heartbeat if it has one. Definitely wouldn't characterize it as "without restriction as to reason"
this title is low key kind of chauvinist
I'd say it's a lot more than that, TBH.
Dunno about the others, but abortion/ultrasound are very restricted/illegal in India precisely because of colonialism and patriarchy.
Because of the desperate economic situation of most people, in addition to conservative cultural norms, poor people esp. don’t want to have girl children. Boys are stronger and can work. They can be educated. And if they get married the family gets a dowry. So, if it turns out that the unborn child is a girl, it is aborted. Which means in India, unless you’re rich or have connections, you don’t even know the sex of your baby until it is born.
Liberal, cosmopolitan Indians are quick to adopt the western talking points and blame “Indian culture” for these practises without taking into account the economic base that creates and reinforces this cultural superstructure. The solution has to be improving the people’s material needs so they don’t need more kids to work on the farms, factories etc to feed the family. Cultural progression/advancement will go hand in hand with that as long as we have a government that cares for the people, rather than just profits.
Adding to this, you can do abortion without anyone's permission, even your spouse, in India. Not just for socio economic reasons.
Yeah, that’s a good point. Abortion is not illegal in India.
You can get an abortion up to 20 weeks in normal cases and 24 weeks in rape etc.
You just can’t get an ultrasound, learn your child is gonna be a girl, then go abort it.
Crazy how outdated this map is and it's only 5 years old. Make Ireland green, bless up :connolly:
What the fuck is your title.
It's not becoming like x country, no it's USA doing USA things
Funny these maps have to have an “unavailable” category solely for Western Sahara
