    Even worse is that they're often fully aware about just how horrible westerners are towards them, it's just that they clamors to be treated as one of the "good ones" in hope that they will be "elevated" by the westerners and leaving their "savage" culture behind.

    And yes, this is basically the same thing indigenous collaborators did in the time of colonization.
