I'm asking cause I'm like 80% sure someone here lives near me. Would you like to maintain the veil of internet anonymity or meet comrades in your area? Discuss.

I feel like I've identified a few people who live in my area and I will be paying them all a visit soon :fedposting:

About a year ago, I identified a user on here as someone who I went to high school with. I wasn't friends with this person, but I had chatted with them in class a few times. I was able to deduce this because their username was their actual real life name (not even joking).

I DM'd them to delete their account and undoxx themselves (they did), but I did not tell them that I know them in real life. The door is open for me to reach out to them, but I'm not sure if I want to.

What a fucking dork, I'm a fan of strict username rules to prevent this sort of thing, including "no names whatsoever can be used including real names, celebrities, nicknames, or even something that looks like a name"

Unironically I could probably only date someone from this site. They need the exact same level of irony poisoning and remembrance of Stalin during the sexual act or I just can't get anywhere. Other than that, it would be interesting to have an actual dialogue with one of you. If someone reached out I'd consider it, but a bunch of other factors from my personal life might get in the way. First person to message me with either place I generally live gets a prize.

If you do try to connect, do your best to maintain opsec and not dox yourself here. Take those comms somewhere else

Definitely, it's still a significant risk to be an out and out communist in many areas

Maybe? I'm a gullible mother fucker with terrible infosec so I'd probably believe any FBI honeypot but I'm also generally lonely and like the idea of unconventional ways of meeting up

I met up with someone from r/cth once, during the before times. I believe I made a comment with my location and he reached out to me, it was after Soleimani was killed and we picketed outside outside city hall with antiwar signs with the college group he was a part of. He seemed alright, but that was the extent of our contact. I felt a little awkward but that's how I usually feel so :shrug-outta-hecks:

Meeting someone off Hexbear now seems like it'd be a pretty different experience because of how much things have changed, both IRL and online with this community being smaller and more tight-knit than the sub was. But I think in general, it's a little bit of a crapshoot because different people get different things out of an online community, and sometimes people are pretty different IRL compared to online. I think I'd probably do it and just try to manage expectations and see it as meeting someone who happens to have the same niche interest as me. That is, assuming I'm feeling social, taking precautions, not getting bad vibes, etc. I'm pretty lax about opsec tbh tho.

I don't think I'd reach out myself, but if someone else reached out to me I wouldn't be offended or anything. There's some people here I'd chance meeting in person.

We are half minute away from feds kidnapping people in black vans for being barely related to something cool like organizing the increasingly furious workers. Now, of course everyone here (especially me) are terminally online grass-phobes, BUTT, those fucking feds will get a small bonus for every bagged poor idiot that they can pin to something revolutionary.

So, nuking a "dangerous radical forum" and placing anyone who participated in clandestine detention holes while CNN cheers is the exact thing they are gonna do when shit gets serious.

Then, yeah for fuck sakes don't doxx yourself and don't trust anyone here. Feds are present in every single org, why won't they infiltrate cool forums like this.

Nobody in the internet is real.

This has the same energy as "Russia put everything they could into manipulating the 2016 election".

There can't be room for more than a few tens of thousands of federal agents, and in terms of benefit vs. cost, I doubt a forum like this

If it was stuff like organizing direct actions around land defense, that would be one thing. But a perpetual stream of people mostly talking about news and online stuff and shitposting? I don't see how they'd justify the hundreds of thousands of dollars for it.

They only need one monitoring this, for example, me.

As a counter-point, I personally don't really think so, however:

        • That could happen in the future, so I don't want anything to be particularly doxxable on here. If the feds actually gave a shit to talk to me, or anyone else on here, it honestly would not be due solely to online activity, especially because this site is not (and should not be) a rallying point for IRL praxis or activities. If you're doing a praxis, then yeah they might use your account here as part of their investigation.
        • A corollary to the above is that any liberals on this site who aren't involved in any IRL shit should reach out to the deep-cover feds and just waste their time grilling or whatever.
        • A Chud raid could try and dox at any time, which would be just about as bad as fed activity.
