they're the epitome of liberal end of history institutional fetishism and playing-by-the rules leads to justice because the western justice system is great!

Jimmy and Chuck's relationship is much more compelling than anything in Breaking Bad.

The relationship between Jimmy and Chuck is absolutely incredible and such a perfect microcosm of this running theme.

Chuck obviously has comorbidities but intentionally or not he's honestly a perfect representation and critique of liberals and the PMC class. Chuck fundamentally cannot accept or acknowledge Jimmy being a good lawyer or even being a lawyer in the first place because doing so would absolutely shatter his identity and worldview. Chuck went to fancy law school, he studied hard, and he has basically an encyclopedic knowledge of the law. He devoted his life to understanding and upholding the entire system.

If Jimmy, a constant screwup all his life conman, can go to night school to a shady university and not only keep pace in the legal profession but even excel in it and do so while flagrantly exposing the classism and blatant contradictions of the American legal system, what does that say about the law Chuck professes to love and admire so much? If Jimmy can go toe to toe with his brother without that encyclopedic knowledge relying solely on good instincts and fundamentals, then what does it say about Chuck himself? Jimmy must fail. He has to fail. Chuck's own insecurities and worldview demand it.
