It looks like they're trying to do a bit of the Sonic and Knuckles games story which is cool. Knuckles back to being Sonics rival instead of an idiot comic relief. It actually lools okay!

Why did they have to make Sonic a cop though? :deeper-sadness:

That's the exact set of thoughts I had.

I'm glad seeing Sonic 3 getting referenced, but the cop stuff was in the movies from the start. The last movie felt like it was more about a guy who wanted to be a good cop than anything else.

Foiling a robbery is easy short hand for action movies to make a character look like a good guy and a badass at the same time. I mean he could use his super speed to sabotage things like oil pipelines or deforestation (two things which he's shown to do and act as part of Sonic's environmentalist themes), but that would be political.

Brb, writing fanfiction where Sonic helps thwart blackwater mercenaries.

Sonic in Sonic Adventure 2: "Sheesh! There always seem to be a lotta police around when ya DON'T need 'em!"

In the games it's canon that Sonic hates the police and has been arrested.

I wish that had been carried over into the movies.

      why make Sonic a cop

In the objectively most superior canon he's literally a terrorist fighting a Protracted People's War, so I suspect the studio forced him to be a little more mass-market friendly.

in the first movie they did falsely imprison a black woman, who pointed out that he was a cop and shouldn't be trusted before that happened. So kinda based actually.
